Durango, is a moderately safe place where petty crimes like pickpocketing, theft, or even scams can occur, but they are not excessively common. However, vigilance and precautions are needed especially in crowded places and during night hours. In general, locals are friendly and the city has much to offer. Insecurity is not a major problem in Durango Mexico which is great. The chance that a person will become a victim of a violent crime in Durango; such as armed robbery, aggravated assault, rape or murder; is 1 in 383. This equates to a rate of 3 per one thousand inhabitants. In addition, NeighborhoodScout found that a lot of the crime that takes place in Durango is property crime. Colorado state has 4.92 crime rate which is about 2 times the crime rate of Durango. But even this crime rate has roots and reasons. The major factors on crime rate which threaten security is Poverty and lack of education.
32% of Durango population is suffering from moderate poverty and 4.37% is suffering from extreme poverty. Many people are vulnerable due to income and social deprivation. So we say that poverty is an issue in Durango which is indefinitely contributing to crimes which increases insecurity. The vision for Durango 2050 is a city free of poverty and crime and fully secured and safe to live in. Viewing the vision of mobility in Durango by 2050 and the huge revolution in Transportation system. This will provide numerous jobs for many people which will decrease poverty and help security. Also the vision of agriculture in Durango 2050 will provide more opportunities and jobs.
70% of Durango’s population have attended school. Though the illiteracy rate in 1.03%. However, the attendance of high school and higher education is very low In Mexico in general. 20% of the population of Mexico has completed high school and baccalaureate which is very low. Moreover only 15% of the Mexicans have completed bachelor’s degree. By 2050 we seek for higher percentage of attendance in high school and bachelor’s degrees and a general lift in education. Viewing the vision of Durango education 2050, It has planned lots of strategies for developing Durango education system.
These two factors were the biggest in the security of Durango and Mexico in general. Working on developing these two fields will reduce the crime rate significantly leading to more safe and secure environment.
